Classic Apple Crumble
Ingredients:
- 6 Bramley apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 100g granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 200g plain flour
- 100g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- A pinch of salt
- Vanilla custard or ice cream, for serving
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F)
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, 50g of granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Toss the apples to coat them evenly with the sugar and spices
- Place the apple mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly
- In a separate bowl, combine the plain flour, remaining 50g of granulated sugar, cold cubed butter, and a pinch of salt
- Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. This will take a few minutes.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the crumble topping is golden brown, and the apple filling is bubbling
- Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla custard or a scoop of your favourite ice cream
